August is a time for seaside trips and to ensure our residents did not miss out, we arranged a visit to Leigh-on-Sea. Fourteen of us set off at 11.30am in the wheelchair accessible minibus, for the 25 minute drive to the coast.
On arrival we had booked a table at the Riviera Restaurant, situated on the beachfront, where we were joined by an ex-respite resident from Raleigh. We spent a very pleasant afternoon chatting, people watching and soaking up the holiday atmosphere, while tucking into a traditional fish’n’chip lunch. And of course you can’t go to the seaside and not have ice-cream, so we all had one of those too!
Also this month we enjoyed a live music performance from musician Tim Arthur, who visited us at Timberlog. He played guitar and sang songs by artists such as Elvis, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran and The Shadows, to name a few. Afterwards the residents enjoyed chatting to him over a cup of tea about his work teaching music and his experience as an extra, in films and TV programmes such as Holby City.
