On the 11th April we made use of our accessible transport to visit The Range’ store in Pitsea. Residents passed a pleasant couple of hours browsing the huge variety of soft furnishings, crafts and knick-knacks on offer in the home and garden departments, before enjoying tea and cake in a local coffee shop.

However the big news this month was the proposed new building project happening at Octagon later this year. Thanks to the popularity of our sheltered accommodation and supported independent living approach, we are investing in the building with plans for three more flats on the first floor.

Residents and staff were shown the plans, which include a lift, and all being well the conversion and decorating works are due to commence at the end of August once the current incumbent tenant has vacated. Our builder has worked extensively in both houses so is fully aware and sensitive to minimising noise and disruption as much as possible. What’s more, day trips will be arranged when we know it’s going to be an exceptionally noisy day, to reduce the impact.

We all look forward to this new chapter and residents are particularly looking forward to welcoming new friends to the expanded Abbeyfield Octagon.
