This weekend saw the much anticipated Royal Wedding take place – which of course we planned to celebrate! On Friday we warmed up in more ways than one, by meeting in the garden to complete a Royal quiz that tested the residents’ knowledge of royal history. They all played together collaborating as a team, while Octagon staff asked the questions – and as we sat in the shade, enjoying ice-creams, we all learned a lot!

Saturday arrived and at last it was time for the main event. Excited residents congregated in the lounge, dressed up for the occasion with hats. While watching the build-up and the wedding itself, we had celebratory drinks to toast the happy couple including Bucks Fizz, champagne, rose, lager and lime or ale.

Karen and Cheryl had decorated the table and prepared a fabulous four course ‘wedding breakfast’ fit for the Royals themselves! Residents chose from melon or salmon prawn mousse, followed by marinated leg of lamb in rosemary jus, rosti potatoes and selection of veg. Dessert was apricot frangipane tart with ice cream or strawberry cheesecake and for those who could squeeze them in, ganache chocolates rounded it off.

As if that was not enough, we later laid on an afternoon tea buffet with selection of sandwiches, cocktail sausages, sausage rolls, apple and pork balls, crudities, dips. Karen had even decorated a two tier wedding cake (fruit and Madeira sponge) which we devoured with plenty of tea and coffee. All the residents had a smashing time and thanked the staff for going to town and celebrating the royal wedding in style!
