No talking at the back!

It was back to school for us at Timberlog this month, as we learnt about looking after our water and protecting our sewers. Some people from the water board came in to talk to the residents about the impact of blocked drains. Curiosity clearly got the better of everyone because we had all 11 residents [...]

Happy Birthday Kitty

Despite the plummeting temperatures outside, we’ve kept ourselves warm and snug here at Octagon. Kitty, our eldest resident, celebrated her 105th birthday this month. We all had a lovely afternoon tea, with buffet, cakes and prosecco. Kitty's family, including her granddaughters and great grandchildren, spent the afternoon with her and all the residents. Her family [...]

Feeling merry and bright

December has been very busy at Timberlog but it’s been wonderful to enjoy all the festivities. It’s been a great end to the year. Our Christmas party included party food, music and a raffle, which raised £220 for the house. The money raised will go towards days out and activities in 2019. The infants at [...]

Lift off at Octagon

We held a Christmas party for the residents and families, and everyone had a great time. We had some party food, mulled wine and a raffle finished off the afternoon. Some local preschool children came to visit us and sing carols. After they had sung, they sat and chatted to the residents. It was really [...]

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

We went to The Magic Mushroom restaurant this month for a lovely Christmas lunch. It was a really great afternoon and everyone enjoyed the treat. One of the residents’ daughters came in to run a session making Christmas decorations. The decorations look beautiful and it proved a really popular activity with more people than normal [...]

Building work at Octagon continues

Building work continues at Octagon House so we planned a trip to Buckhatch garden centre in Rettendon Common. The five residents had a chance to look at the vast array of trees and plants, gifts for the home and garden, and all of the Christmas decorations that had recently gone on display. While we were [...]

For he’s a jolly good fellow…

We’ve had a lovely month at Timberlog, with much singing, dancing and celebration. Our neighbour very kindly came in to run a karaoke session with us one evening. We were so grateful for his time, as the residents really enjoyed it. There were a couple of microphones so anyone who wanted to join in got [...]

A trip to the pub for lunch

As work started at Octagon House this month, we’ve been getting out for a bit of peace and quiet when we can. We went to the Shepherd and Dog pub and enjoyed a lovely lunch there. The staff really looked after us. Sadly, one of our residents was in hospital so wasn’t able to join [...]

Feeding the mind, body and soul

At Timberlog, our residents have been helping out with food donations for the Harvest Festival. And some people also joined in with Harvest Festival prayers and hymns. One of our volunteers came into visit us this month with the great idea of talking about the news. She brought along the newspaper and picked out a [...]

All aboard for the Octagon residents

In September, some of our residents went on our annual canal trip, travelling from Harlow to Sawbridgeworth by canal boat. It was a fantastic day and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Our fish and chip lunch was brought to us on the boat and the weather was kind which was the icing on the cake. At [...]
